Leatherwork Courses

The beginners' course "An Introduction to Traditional Leatherwork" takes place in Hexham on the last Saturday of every month and covers all the basic techniques needed to make either a belt or a small bag. Tools and materials are provided.

Intermediate, advanced and specialist courses are also available as are courses covering archaeological and historical aspects of the craft.

If there is a particular area of leatherwork which interests you, please contact us and we can put together a course to cover your specific requirements.

We also run sessions in schools from key stage 1 to 4 and beyond, covering historical aspects of leatherworking. These involve demonstrations, handling of replica artefacts and the making of leather objects and link in with subjects such as Art and Design, History and Design and Technology.

"the working environment was extremly supportive and you gave us the confidence we needed as first time leatherworkers" - Jan

"we couldn't believe that we came away with such a lovely finished product that was all our own work, we are so proud of ourselves!" - Joe
